MWUN PG Comrade Bunu Commends MAJAN Leadership, Assures members Of Brighter Days Ahead

...Urges Members to shun drugs, trust the union leaders

The president general of the Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN), Comrade Francis Bunu Abi has Commended the leadership of Maritime Journalists' Association of Nigeria, MAJAN for its steadfastness in reporting the activities of MWUN albeit, positively and the maritime industry at large. Bunu assured members of the union of better days ahead, stating that a new dawn has begun for the union.

The MWUN President General gave the assurance on Thursday when he hosted the executive members of the Maritime Journalist Association of Nigeria, (MAJAN) at the MWUN secretariat in Apapa.

His words:" I want to assure the union members that there is a new dawn and better things are coming. They should have trust in the union leaders. MWUN members should have hope in the union. The union is ready to resolve any issue that is affecting them in their workplace and more.

He also appealed to the union members to stay away from drugs and avoid unnecessary bickering, leading to fights.

"Don't steal. Don't fight. Don't take drugs. Don't do anything that has to do with drugs. Do your job and let your love for the union keep waxing stronger", comrade Bunu appealed to MWUN members.

The MWUN president general identified lack of trust as one of the major challenges confronting unionism in the country.

He however urged members of the union to trust the union leaders, even as he encourages members to trust the unions, saying the worst trade union is better than no union

He also stated the need for the union to encourage their members, while they in turn also keep encouraging their  leaders.

Meanwhile, The MWUN president general has commended the head of Lagos State office of the Directorate of State Security Service (DSSS), Babajide Adisa for the immense and critical roles he played in resolving the issues at the recently unionised Melsmore Marine Limited.

Comrade Bunu said 'I want to use this opportunity to thank the head of DSSS in Lagos State office, Babajide Adisa.  In fact, he is one of the officers that Nigeria needs to  encourage. He is one of the most truthful DSSS officers that I have ever seen. Someone who stands by the truth and can speak the truth.

"He played a very great role in resolving this issue. when a man is  able to tell foreigners to  their faces that what they are doing is wrong,  I give him kudos.  He has done very well. For a trade union, to appreciate the security service, it means a lot. It means he has done very well, and that is the truth .

Recall, Comrade Bunu hit the ground running immediately he took over from Comrade Adewale Adeyanju.  He said it was easy for him to start work immediately because he has been in the system for a long time, having started from the bottom of the ladder and rose through the ranks to become the deputy president general untill he took over from Comrade Adeyanju.

He restated the commitment of his Exco to the union and welfare of members, assuring that his Exco will do more to take the union to the next level.

Earlier in his remark, MAJAN president, Mr Jerry Aguigbo commended Comrade Bunu for his prompt action and  achievements within the short period he took over the leadership of the union, while assuring that his association will continue to collaborate with MWUN.

He assured the union that MAJAN  will continue to support the union and work for the advancement of the Maritime industry.
