The Ondo State Police Command, under the leadership of the Commissioner of Police, CP Adebowale Lawal, psc(+), mnips, has reiterated the commitment of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu psc(+), NPM, to strengthening professionalism, discipline, operational efficiency and improved welfare for officers and men of the Nigeria Police Force.
The Commissioner conveyed the Inspector-General’s message during an interactive lecture held with Inspectors and rank-and-file officers of the Command on 7th May, 2026 at Police Officers Mess, Alagbaka. The session provided a platform for direct engagement on key operational and administrative issues affecting policing in the State.
In delivering the IGP’s message, CP Adebowale Lawal conveyed the Inspector-General’s commendation to officers and men of the Force for their bravery, discipline, dedication and unwavering commitment in the fight against crime and criminality across the country. He further highlighted the appreciation of the Inspector-General of Police for the courage, resilience and tenacity consistently demonstrated by personnel in the face of evolving security challenges, noting that their sacrifices and professionalism remain central to sustaining peace, public safety and national security.
The Commissioner, speaking on behalf of the Inspector-General, urged officers not to be discouraged by criticism or public opinion, emphasizing that their core mandate remains the protection of lives and property and the maintenance of law and order. He charged personnel to remain focused, disciplined and professional in the discharge of their duties, while upholding the ethical standards and core values of the Nigeria Police Force.
CP Adebowale Lawal also delivered a strong warning against corruption, extortion and all forms of misconduct, stressing that such acts undermine public trust and will not be tolerated. Officers were directed to carry out their duties with diligence, transparency and strict respect for human rights.
The Commissioner directed all personnel to ensure proper use and display of official name tags while on duty. He disclosed that Command Monitoring Teams would commence routine inspections across formations to ensure compliance, with sanctions for defaulters in line with extant regulations.
Reiterating the Inspector-General’s directive, CP Lawal cautioned officers against the misuse of social media platforms. He reminded personnel to strictly adhere to the Force Social Media Policy and avoid any online activity that could compromise operational security or damage the image of the Force.
The Commissioner emphasized the importance of continuous training and retraining, particularly in arms handling, tactical operations, and modern policing techniques. According to him, sustained capacity development remains critical to improving professionalism, efficiency, and operational responsiveness in contemporary policing.
CP Adebowale Lawal also addressed matters relating to officers’ welfare and wellbeing, urging personnel to prioritize their health, noting that they remain vital to their families and the nation. He further assured officers that issues relating to pensions and other welfare concerns are receiving the attention of the Police leadership, with ongoing efforts aimed at enhancing welfare packages and support systems for personnel.
Speaking on the forthcoming Ondo South Bye-Election scheduled for 20 June, 2026, the Commissioner charged officers to remain neutral, professional and apolitical throughout the electoral process. He directed that adequate security be provided for officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), ad-hoc staff, electoral materials, and other logistics before, during and after the election.
The Commissioner of Police reaffirmed the commitment of the Inspector-General of Police and the Ondo State Police Command to sustaining peace, security, and public confidence across the State. He urged officers and men of the Command to remain disciplined, professional, people-oriented, and steadfast in the discharge of their constitutional responsibilities.
