The Executive Chairman of Lagos Mainland Local Government, Mayor Jubril Emilagba, has said the Eid-el-Kabir celebration is a reminder of unity, peace, and communal bonding that should guide leaders and citizens alike.
Speaking during the festivities, Mayor Emilagba noted that the festival’s message of “making peace with your people” is reflected in the tradition of eating and drinking together regardless of social status. He said the practice reinforces the Quranic teaching that God is the ultimate authority and that leaders must remain close to their communities.
“The celebration fosters cooperation and love,” he said. “When people leave their homes to gather at a central location, it shows communal trust and social cohesion, which are essential for the stability of any local government.”
The chairman said residents of Lagos Mainland had experienced the “dividends of democracy” under his administration through improved road networks, health interventions, and food distribution during Ramadan and Lent. He added that plans were in place to extend similar support to traditional rulers.
Mayor Emilagba thanked political leaders Hon. Jide Jimoh, Hon. Wale Oshun, Hon. Batola Owolabi, and the paramount ruler of Oto Kingdom and Mainland Environs, Oba Bashiru Odesanya, for their support, saying the administration’s progress would not have been possible without them.
Looking ahead to the next elections, he expressed confidence that Lagos Mainland would deliver strong support for the All Progressives Congress. He urged residents to vote for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as the Presidential Candidate, Lagos State governorship candidate Dr.Kadiri Obafemi Hamzat, House of Representatives candidate Hon. Kazeem Omolaja, and House of Assembly candidate Hon. Ibrahim Ajani Owolabi.
“The work we have done has earned the trust of the people, and the payback is their vote for the APC,” he said.
