Six Rotary Clubs in Lagos have jointly delivered a transformative Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) project at Community Primary School, Iroko Aparadija, Abule Iroko in Ogun State, reinforcing Rotary International’s commitment to improving lives through sustainable community service.
The initiative, executed as part of Rotary’s global focus on water and sanitation during the month of March, highlights the organisation’s dedication to advancing basic education, preventing disease, and promoting healthy hygiene practices through improved infrastructure.
The project was officially commissioned on April 1, 2026, at the school premises, with the royal presence of His Royal Majesty, Oba Architect Olusegun Ayinde Feyijimi Iroko, Gbadewolu I, the Oniroko of Iroko Land. The monarch commended the Rotary Clubs for their selfless service and impactful contribution to community development.
Presidents and members from all six participating clubs were present at the ceremony, demonstrating strong collaboration and shared commitment. The clubs involved include Rotary Club of Alakuko, Rotary Club of Ikeja GRA, Rotary Club of Adeniyi Jones, Rotary Club of Nigeria Globetrotters, Rotary Club of Ikeja Airport, and Rotary Club of Maryland.
The event also attracted wide participation from the Iroko community, including traditional chiefs, residents, and school representatives who expressed deep appreciation for the inintervention
Headmistresses of the beneficiary schools, Mrs. Sodehinde Olorunkemi of Local Government Primary School 1 and Mrs. Olorunkosebi Maryam of Local Government Primary School 2, attended alongside teachers and student representatives.
Community leader Chief Tunji Bello, the Basorun of Iroko, conveyed heartfelt gratitude on behalf of the community, describing the project as both timely and impactful.
The WASH project is expected to significantly improve access to clean water, enhance sanitation facilities, and instill proper hygiene practices among pupils. Beyond improving health outcomes, the initiative will also create a more conducive learning environment for students.
By addressing these essential needs, the project aligns with Rotary’s core focus areas, including Water, Sanitation and Hygiene, Basic Education and Literacy, and Disease Prevention and Treatment, while contributing to long-term community well-being.
This collaborative effort underscores the power of partnership and reflects Rotary’s enduring motto, “Service Above Self,” bringing meaningful and sustainable change to the Iroko community.
