ONDO POLICE LAUNCHES POCACOV OUTREACH TO COMBAT CULTISM AND OTHER VIOLENT CRIMES

The Ondo State Police Command, under the proactive leadership of the Commissioner of Police, CP Adebowale Lawal, psc(+), mnips, on Thursday, 30th April, 2026, officially launched the Police Campaign Against Cultism and Other Violent Crimes (POCACOV) outreach in Ondo State.

The launch, which was carried out alongside members of the Command’s management team, marks a significant step in strengthening community-based strategies aimed at preventing cultism, youth violence, and other criminal activities across the State.

In his address, CP Adebowale Lawal emphasized that POCACOV is a strategic initiative of the Inspector-General of Police IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu psc(+), NPM designed to address the root causes of crime, particularly among young people. He noted that the campaign focuses on advocacy, mentorship, reorientation, and partnership with critical stakeholders to steer youths away from crime and towards productive ventures.

The Commissioner highlighted that the increasing threat of cult-related activities and violent crimes requires a proactive and preventive approach, rather than relying solely on enforcement. He stressed that the success of POCACOV depends largely on collaboration between the Police, community leaders, educational institutions, parents, religious bodies, and other relevant stakeholders.

CP Lawal further reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property, while also promoting peace and stability throughout Ondo State. He called on youths to shun all forms of criminality and embrace lawful means of livelihood, assuring that the Police would continue to support initiatives that empower and guide them positively.

The event featured interactive engagements, sensitization sessions, and the mobilization of community support towards sustaining the objectives of the campaign.

The Ondo State Police Command therefore urges members of the public to cooperate with the Police and actively participate in the POCACOV initiative, as collective effort remains key to building a safer and more secure society.
