In continuation of its sustained fight against cultism and related criminal activities in Ondo State, the Ondo State Police Command under the leadership of CP Adebowale Lawal, psc(+), mnips, through its Special Anti-Cultism Squad, has recorded significant operational breakthroughs in its ongoing intelligence-driven crackdown across the State.
In a major operation carried out on 20th April, 2026, operatives deployed to Ode-Irele successfully arrested four suspected cultists. The suspects, identified as Akinboyo Adeniyi (42), Oyewumi Samuel (23), Adepoju Godday (22), and Adebayo Igbekoyi (21), were apprehended following credible and actionable intelligence obtained from an earlier arrested suspect. The information led to a well-coordinated and targeted operation by the tactical team, resulting in this success.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the suspects are linked to ongoing cult-related activities within the area. The Command views this arrest as a significant step toward dismantling criminal networks and restoring peace in affected communities. The suspects have since been charged to court in accordance with due process.
In a related development, on 23rd April, 2026, two suspects, namely Jimoh Kazeem and Joseph Michael, were transferred from Idanre Divisional Headquarters to the Special Anti-Cultism Squad, Akure, for further investigation. Findings from preliminary interrogation reveal that the suspects are members of the notorious Eiye Confraternity, a group often associated with violent criminal activities.
During the course of investigation, several items suspected to be connected to cult activities were recovered from the suspects. These include a blue beret commonly associated with cult groups, suspected criminal charms, substances suspected to be Indian hemp, and an unregistered red Honda motorcycle believed to have been used in the commission of criminal acts. The suspects will be charged to court upon the conclusion of ongoing investigations.
The Command has intensified efforts to apprehend other fleeing members of these criminal groups who are currently at large. Investigations are ongoing to establish the full extent of the suspects’ involvement in cult-related activities and to uncover any wider criminal network connected to them.

He emphasized that the Police will continue to adopt proactive, intelligence-led strategies in tackling criminality and ensuring the safety of lives and property.
