The 2026 Cultural Day celebration at de-SAVIOUS Private Schools was a vibrant and memorable occasion, bringing together pupils, parents, and staff in a rich display of Nigeria’s diverse cultural heritage. Held on April 10, 2026, at the school premises located on No 4, Soyinka Street, Okooba, Agege, Lagos State, the event showcased the beauty of tradition through fashion, music, dance, drama, and local cuisine.
Cultural Day in schools is more than just a festive gathering, it is a meaningful platform that promotes unity in diversity. It allows students to appreciate different ethnic backgrounds while fostering respect, tolerance, and a sense of identity. In his welcome address, the amiable proprietor of the school, Mr. Abiodun Ademefon, expressed his gratitude to parents, friends, and well-wishers for their continued support. He noted that although Cultural Day has been celebrated in the school for many years, this marked the second time it was being held on such an elaborate scale, describing it as the 17th edition overall.
Speaking on the theme of the 2026 celebration, “Our Culture, Our Heritage, Our Values,” he emphasized the importance of culture in shaping identity and national development.
According to him, Nigeria’s rich cultural diversity, spanning over 500 traditions across various ethnic groups, is one of the country’s greatest strengths and a source of pride on the global stage.
Drawing from personal experience, he described culture as “who you are,” while tradition is “what you do with your culture.” He illustrated this by referencing his Yoruba heritage from Abeokuta in Ogun State, highlighting local cultural elements such as adire fabric and traditional foods like kokoro and sugarcane, which symbolize the richness of the region.
He further stressed that heritage is the legacy passed down from one generation to another, shaping character and values. He credited his upbringing for instilling discipline in him, identifying indiscipline as one of Nigeria’s major challenges. According to him, addressing this issue is crucial for the nation’s progress.
The event also featured recognition of outstanding participants, with prizes awarded to pupils and parents who stood out in their cultural displays. The stage presentations and performances vividly reflected the essence of the theme, reinforcing the importance of preserving cultural identity.
