A former police officer and businessman, Alhaji Ibrahim Mohammed Ajia, has declared support for Nigeria’s federal security efforts following his formal defection to the All Progressives Congress during a familiarisation visit to Mogaji Ngeri Ward in Ilorin.
Ajia, the Dan Amanan Fune Emirate of Yobe State and Nwanne Ukwu Di Na Mba of Amaba-Ukwu Item in Abia State, was presented with the party’s broom, the APC symbol by the ward chairman, Alhaji Ibrahim Muritala Oforo, at the Gegele ward secretariat amid cheers from party faithful and residents.
The reception was attended by the Executive Chairman of Ilorin West Local Government, Hon. Shehu Abdulrahman Babatunde Ladan; Senior Special Assistant (Political), Hon. Suleiman Aremu Saikai; women leader Hajia Bukola Galadima; youth leaders Abdulwahab Abaya and other stakeholders who described his entry as a major boost to grassroots mobilisation.
Speaking after receiving his membership, Ajia said his decision followed months of consultations and prayers with supporters and community leaders, adding that his move was guided by patriotism and the need to contribute to national stability.
Drawing from his professional background in the Nigeria Police Force, which he left in 2017, Ajia emphasised that insecurity cannot be solved through force alone.
He advocated intelligence sharing, community participation and collaboration between citizens and security agencies as the most sustainable approach to peace, stressing that criminals must be treated as enemies of the state rather than of any ethnic or religious group.
He expressed confidence in the security direction of the administration of Bola Ahmed Tinubu, citing the leadership role of Christopher Musa and noting that federal strategies must be reinforced by grassroots cooperation to achieve lasting results.
Ajia assured party leaders that his entry into the APC would focus on civic mobilisation, public awareness and stronger community engagement with government programmes, saying the effort would enhance the impact of federal initiatives at the local level.
He dismissed suggestions that his defection was driven by personal political ambition, maintaining that his involvement in politics is based on service and national interest. He urged Nigerians to support ongoing reforms despite temporary challenges, while supporters expressed optimism that his security experience would strengthen party structures and public trust in governance.
Ajia reaffirmed his commitment to work with authorities at all levels to promote peace, stability and improved living conditions for citizens.
