The Ondo State Police Command wishes to inform the general public of the arrest of a suspected burglar and the recovery of stolen property following a reported burglary incident in Ore, Ondo State, as part of its sustained efforts to combat cross-border criminal activities.
In this regard, a distress call was received at the Ore Divisional Police Headquarters from two residents of Ore community, Sunday and Balogun, who reported that a gang of four suspected burglars forcefully invaded their apartments and carted away several valuables.
Consequently, the following items were reported stolen during the incident:
Two (2) television sets
Two (2) motorcycles
One (1) Redmi 13 smartphone
One (1) iPhone 16 Pro Max
One (1) iPhone 11
One (1) Zealot X78 Bluetooth speaker
Cash sum of Six Hundred and Seventy Thousand Naira (₦670,000)
Upon receipt of the report, the Divisional Police Officer immediately mobilized a response team to the scene. This prompt action, combined with the cooperation of vigilant community members, led to the successful apprehension of one of the suspects.
Following his arrest, the suspect was identified as Okemiri Ogonna 'm'. Subsequent preliminary investigation revealed that he is a member of a criminal syndicate operating along state lines, with its operational base believed to be outside Ondo State. Notably, the syndicate has been under discreet surveillance by the Command for some time due to its alleged involvement in cross-border burglary activities within Ore and its environs.
In the course of the arrest and preliminary investigation, two TVS Ladies motorcycles were recovered. These items have since been secured and documented as exhibits.
Meanwhile, efforts have been intensified to track down and arrest the remaining members of the syndicate, as investigation into the case continues. The suspect currently in custody will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.
Against this backdrop, the Ondo State Police Command states unequivocally that Ondo State has never been and will never be a breeding ground for criminal elements. As consistently demonstrated in the past, criminals who migrate from other states with the intention of perpetrating crimes within the State will always be identified, tracked, and arrested, as the Command has proven times without number.
In view of the foregoing, the Command commends the residents for their timely report and cooperation, and once again encourages members of the public to continue to provide credible and actionable information that can aid crime prevention and detection.
Furthermore, the Commissioner of Police, Ondo State Command, appreciates the Inspector-General of Police, for his strategic leadership, sustained support, and commitment to strengthening intelligence-led policing across the country.
