The Yaba Local Council Development Area (LCDA) has once again demonstrated its commitment to education and youth development by successfully hosting the Year 2025 Spelling Bee Competition. The event brought together bright and talented pupils and students across schools in the community, showcasing academic excellence.
Held on Thursday, 25th September 2025, the competition continues the noble vision initiated by the First Lady of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, SENATOR Oluremi Tinubu, through the New Era Foundation. The programme is designed to promote literacy, nurture intellectual capacity, and build self-confidence among Nigerian children.
In her goodwill message, the Chairperson of Yaba LCDA, Mrs. Kehinde Adefuye, congratulated the participants for their outstanding performance and perseverance. She emphasized that the competition is not only an educational platform but also an opportunity to instill discipline, confidence, and leadership qualities in children.
Delivering his keynote address, the Executive Chairman of Yaba LCDA, Hon. (Dr.) Bayo Adefuye, praised the pupils and students for their remarkable display of intelligence and hard work. He urged them to embrace academic excellence while shunning drug abuse, cultism, and other negative influences, stressing that education remains the most reliable key to a promising future.
The Winners of the Competition are;
Secondary School Category
1st Place: Muntari Zaradeen – Birrel Avenue Senior High School
2nd Place: Egbuo Gabriel – Eletu Odibo Junior High School
3rd Place: Jimoh Khaled – Aje Comprehensive Senior High School
In Primary School Category
1st Place: Garuba Noimot – Military Nursery and Primary School
2nd Place: Jegede Peters – Oluwole Nursery and Primary School
3rd Place: Mustapha Opemipo – Our Lady of Apostle School
Mrs. Adefuye further commended teachers and parents for their relentless dedication to grooming the pupils, encouraging them to continue investing in the future of their wards. She also reaffirmed the Council’s unwavering commitment to supporting educational advancement and empowering children to become responsible leaders of tomorrow.
The competition ended on a high note with winners emerging from different categories, receiving prizes and commendations for their outstanding performances. Participants who did not win were also encouraged to keep striving, as every effort in learning counts toward building their future.
Community leaders and dignitaries present commended the Chairman for using the event not only to encourage academic excellence but also to address pressing societal issues affecting youths.
The 2025 Yaba LCDA Spelling Bee stands as part of the broader vision of the Yaba Tuntun Agenda , which is giving birth to “Education Tuntun” — a renewed focus on building an enlightened, disciplined, and empowered generation of students who will shape the future of Yaba and Nigeria at large.
