Lily College of Nursing Sciences Holds Landmark First Matriculation Ceremony in Warri

Lily College of Nursing Sciences, one of Nigeria’s most promising healthcare institutions, marked a historic milestone with its first-ever matriculation ceremony held on July 17, 2025, at the Monachy Event Center, Warri. The event formally welcomed 136 pioneer students—100 in General Nursing and 36 in Basic Midwifery—into the college, showcasing the institution’s strong start in providing quality nursing education grounded in excellence, ethics, and service.

Speaking at the ceremony, Provost Mr. Felix Udogwu charged the students to embrace their calling with responsibility and purpose. “You are the first fruits of a vision not just to educate, but to transform lives,” he said. “Your journey here is a declaration of readiness to serve humanity with compassion, discipline, and integrity.” He emphasized the college’s commitment to producing professionals who are both clinically competent and morally upright.

Dr. Austin Okogun, CEO of Lily Hospitals—the parent institution—reiterated the strategic goal of the college: to bridge the healthcare manpower gap in Nigeria through world-class education.

“We are building an institution that will outlive us. These students will soon become the backbone of clinics and hospitals across the country,” he stated. Dr. Okogun assured continued access to state-of-the-art training facilities, mentorship, and clinical exposure through Lily Hospitals.

The administration of the matriculation oath was one of the day’s most emotional moments, as the students, dressed in white, pledged to uphold the noble ideals of the nursing and midwifery professions. The oath symbolized not just academic commitment but a lifelong promise to serve humanity with empathy and honor.

Students expressed pride and gratitude for the opportunity to be part of Lily College’s foundational class. “This is a dream come true,” said Asagba Hilda, a General Nursing student. “Being part of the first set feels historic and inspiring.” Another student, Favour Agbro, noted, “Lily College stood out during the admission process for its professionalism. Today, I’m even more convinced I made the right choice.”

The event featured rich cultural performances, including traditional dances, spoken word, and a dramatic portrayal of nurses as community health heroes. The highlight was the unveiling of the official college anthem—focused on knowledge, service, and humanity—which earned a standing ovation from the audience.

Parents, community leaders, and healthcare stakeholders in attendance praised the institution’s vision and execution. Mrs. Aleh, a parent, remarked, “Lily College is clearly positioned to raise leaders in healthcare. The structure, organization, and passion here are unmatched.”

Founded in 2024 and accredited by the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria (NMCN), Lily College of Nursing Sciences offers top-tier programs in General Nursing and Basic Midwifery. With strong academic leadership and a unique partnership with Lily Hospitals for hands-on clinical training, the college is fast emerging as a beacon of excellence for students seeking to build impactful careers in nursing and midwifery.
