On behalf of the National, Executive Council (NEC), Board of Trustees (BOT), Management, and Staff of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), I extend my warmest felicitations to our Muslim brothers and sisters across the nation on the joyous occasion of Eid-el-Fitr today March 30, 2025 corresponding to 1st Shawwal, 1446 AH)
As we mark the end of Ramadan and the beginning of the new Islamic month, it is important to acknowledge the spiritual renewal and rejuvenation that this sacred period brings.
I appreciate the unwavering faith and resilience of our Muslim brothers and sisters who have persevered through the trials of fasting and spiritual reflection.
However, ALGON cannot ignore the economic hardships and challenges that many Nigerians, including our Muslim brothers and sisters, face. The struggles to make ends meet, the empty stomachs, and the unimaginable hardships are a stark reality that we must confront together. These challenges are particularly pronounced in our Local Governments and Area Councils, where poor farmers reside, and jobless Nigerians struggle to survive amidst numerous existential challenges, including banditry, kidnapping, armed robbery, and drug/substance abuse.
As ALGON celebrates the blessings of Eid-el-Fitr, we pray that Allah (SWT) brings comfort, relief, and prosperity to millions of homes and families of our Muslim brothers and sisters. May this joyous occasion mark the beginning of a new chapter of peace, happiness, and abundance in their lives.
We stand in solidarity with our Muslim brothers and sisters, acknowledging that their struggles are our collective responsibility. We will continue to work tirelessly to ensure that their voices are heard and their needs are met. Our advocacy for good governance and sustainable development in the LGAs will continue to remain part of our priority.
Through ALGON, we pledge our determination to continue work together with other Tiers of Government, NGF, MDAs and Development Partners to develop our capacity in leadership, with innovative strategies to support the rural economy. We will work assiduously to promote rural governance, service delivery to improve livelihoods, and enhance the overall well-being of our people.
