The African Church Celebrate Primate Emeritus, Dr. Abraham Onadotun Onanuga As He Joins The Octogenarian League

It was a day of joy for the Onanuga family, as family, friends and well wishers gathered to celebrate an exemplary life and service to God and Humanity of Primate Emeritus of the African Church, His Eminence Dr. Abraham Onadotun Onanuga as he clocks 80 Years.

The auspicious event and celebration took place at the African Church Bethlehem Cathedral, Lagos Central Diocese, in Ebute Metta Lagos, on Sunday, 21st April 2024.


The Birthday Service had in attendance dignitaries from all walks of life, including the Paramount ruler of Oshile in Oke Ona, Egba Land, Oba Adedapo Tejuosho, his Wives, The Lay President of the African Church, Engr. Babatunde Odufuwa, Deputy Lay President, Barrister. Adebowale Oduguwa, Primate of the Church, His Eminence Julius Olayinka Abbe, National officers of the Church, The immediate Past Lay President Reverend Canon Adebukola Okunowo, The immediate past Primate of The Church, His Eminence, Dr. Emmanuel Josiah Udofia, Bishops from all over the Country and other Clergymen of God.









The Birthday Service featured Praise and Worship, Hymns, Psalms and thanksgiving to appreciate God for sparing his life thus far. In his words, Barrister Adebowale Oduguwa, said Baba Primate Onanuga, remains the father of all, and can be rightly called the father of modern African Church through his innovative and purposeful leadership when he was the Primate, his prayers is that the Lord will grant him all the desires of his heart today and always. 




The present Primate of The Church, His Eminence Julius Olayinka Abe, who took the sermon said he is extremely proud of the great man of God, who remains an epitome of high moral standard, contented and a vessel of honour in all ramifications.

Primate Abe went further to eulogize the Primate Emeritus that he consistently paid the prize against all odds to accord the office of the Primate its rightful status and candour.

Some of the National officers of the Church in their goodwill messages said the Primate Onanuga leadership, wisdom, and unwavering dedication have left an indelible mark on the hearts of the Church as a whole.

The wife of the celebrant Deaconess Mrs. Olufunmilola Onanuga in her words said the celebrant has been God-sent to her seeing themselves through thick and thin, the high flow of life, and a very caring husband and father who is always there for them.

The Primate Emeritus during his tenure as the Primate of the Church has done remarkable events including, the journeying of the African Church into 21st Century, Diocese was increased to 32 in Number, the First Centenary celebration 1901 to 2001, Establishing of London branch of the African Church  and many other achievements.
