Re- Four Nurses Resign Everyday, LASUTH Chief Medical Director Laments

My attention has been called to the inaccurate reportage of part of my goodwill message at the recent Nursing Administrators Conference in Lagos. The true part of the story is that there is a high rate of attrition of health workers, including nurses in LASUTH, Lagos and Nigeria.

However, I did emphasise the ‘pull factor’ over and above the ‘push factor’ as the major reason for the trend. The governments of some of the developed countries have been quite uncaring and selfish in emptying Nigeria and other developing world countries of their highly trained and experienced health work force.

The allure of better pay packages and a better environment to live had made the decisions to emigrate quite easy.

I wish to put it on record that the Lagos State government, under the leadership of Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwoolu remains one of the most outstanding states in Nigeria that had continuously ensured retention packages for its health work place. In particular, the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH) remains a veritable beneficiary of the generous gestures of MR.Governor.

Adetokunbo O. Fabamwo
Chief Medical Director
LASUTH
