COMPREHENSIVE SCHOOL MODEL: LAGOS PARTNERS WITH FINLAND

As part of efforts to enhance the implementation of the newly established Comprehensive Schools across the State, The Lagos State Government is set to partner with the City of Tampere, Finland, towards maximising educational quality standards, strengthening its human capacity and ensuring efficiency for positive results in the schools.

Speaking on the planned collaboration in Alausa recently, the Honourable Commissioner for Education, Mrs. Folasade Adefisayo, said the present administration is desirous of achieving educational excellence and seeks to infuse vocational education in secondary schools through exchange programmes with the City of Tampere, Finland.

The Commissioner explained that Lagos State Government and Finland have reached an agreement to promote digital transformation and development of the education sector in the State.

She said: “This is an impressive collaboration as the City of Tampere in Finland has offered maximum support to the education sector and appreciates our efforts as a government in integrating vocational studies, through the establishment of comprehensive schools, alongside our regular academic programme in secondary schools. We have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) and processes are ongoing for a smooth working relationship”.

Mrs. Adefisayo emphasised that the partnership is another step in actualising the Education and Technology Agenda of Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu’s administration, pointing out that the step proffers a fit-for-purpose educational system where students have an edge and are empowered with various entrepreneurial courses and skills for self-reliance and productivity while in school.

The Lagos State Government, in February 2022, launched and commenced the Comprehensive School System with 12 Senior Secondary Schools as a pilot across the six Education Districts in the State.

The Comprehensive School Programme has broad subject categories which comprise skills training in Agriculture, Tech & Digital Skills, Beauty and Events, Building & Construction, Media & Entertainment, Financial Literacy, Entrepreneurship, Communication, Marketing & Sales as well as Digital Literacy among others.
