The stakeholders in tertiary institutions across the country have been urged to develop good campus master plan with the view of creating conducive learning environment.
A Professor Urban and Regional Planning, Prof T. K Omole made this call on Wednesday while speaking at Public Lecture organized by the Directorate of Physical Planning, Federal Polytechnic Ile-Oluji.
Prof Omole, a lecturer in the department of Urban and Regional Planning, Federal University of Technology Akure noted that a campus without a functional Master Plan will be developed haphazardly.
His words: "A campus without a functional Master Plan ends up as haphazard development which is inimical to training and learning ends up as a malfunction campus. The master plan indicates in a general way how the policy makers want the community to develop in the next 20 to 30 years.
"A published master plan document must include a unified general physical design for the community and it must attempt to clarify the relationship between physical development, policies, social and economic goals".
He added that the plan must make provision for all facets of learning including blocks of lecture rooms, laboratories, workshops, studios, residential quarters, roads, walkways, parking facilities, recreational centres and green areas.
Prof Omole stated that a good campus master plan should guide against lost of man hours while commuting the institution.
In his address, the Director of Physical Planning Federal Polytechnic Ile-Oluji, QS Oyetunde Oyelola appreciated the Polytechnic Rector, Prof Emmanuel Adedayo Fasakin for supporting the lecture series initiative.
QS Oyelola while reeling out achievements of the Directorate said about 20 projects have been completed.
"Completion of projects including administrative complex has facilitated relocation of all schools (faculties) to the completed building at permanent site. We also published the manual for clerk of works unit and ensure quality assurance/quality control through effective project supervision." He added.
The Director said the Directorate needs computer aided design software, Building Information Modelling (BIM) and computers with necessary specification to improve service delivery.
Our Correspondent reports that the lecture series that started in 2017 is an initiative to QS Oyelola, the pioneer Director of Physical Planning of the Polytechnic.
