The Managing Director of the Lagos State Waste Management Authority, LAWMA, Mr. Ibrahim Odumboni, has appealed to residents and business owners of Ibeju Lekki, Epe and its neighbouring towns under the East 2 District, to take up the responsibility of disposing their solid waste properly.
Mr. Odumboni made this call on Thursday, 14th October, 2021, at the Local Government Secretariat, when members of his team visited the area to carry out a special clean-up and advocacy exercise.

In the town Hall meeting with Chairman of the local government, Princess Surah olayemi Animashaun, traditional rulers, market leaders community leaders, religious leaders, youths leaders, PSP Operator in the area and other stakeholders, Mr. Odumboni noted that the aim of the visit was also to update the people on the activities of LAWMA within the district as well as prepare their minds on the forthcoming development with the establishment of the Lekki Free Trade Zone.
Stressing that if nothing is done to curb the situation of indiscriminate disposal of refuge in the area, it will be a tough nut to crack when Epe becomes a transit city, and that he says, comes with its own problem because the waste generation would have increased.
“I am more concern about how we can prepare ourselves for the new development ahead and not be caught unawares. Alot of development is ongoing now, so you need to pay attention.”
“Take responsibility for your waste and stop blaming the council for the dirtiness of your environment. We need to change our attitude to waste. Pay your household waste bills. There is a law that prohibits you from dumping waste by the roadside. So please talk to yourselves and start to do the right thing.”
“My appeal to you is that let’s do as much as we can do to sustain cleanliness in Epe. We are not jokers and there is no room for laziness. We are in Epe and we are here to work. The governor has provided us with all we need to transform this environment, but this can only be possible with your help.”
Applauding the LAWMA team for their steadfast approach to ensuring environmental sanity in the area, Princess Surah olayemi Animashaun, Chairman of Epe Local Government, said she can attest to the fact that LAWMA has been doing a commendable job.
“I salute your commitment to work. LAWMA, I am happy you are here today to meet with us and for us to discuss and delibrate how we can keep this area clean. We are ready to work with you and support you.”
The meeting was attended by different stakeholders in the communities which included traditional rulers, community leaders, market leaders, youth representatives, Religious leaders.
