The management team of the Lagos State Waste Management Authority, LAWMA, led by the MD/CEO, Mr. Ibrahim Odumboni, on Wednesday, met with the management of the Lagos State University, LASU, Epe Campus, on a working visit.
The visit to the campus situated in heart of Epe Town, was part of the ongoing special clean-up and advocacy exercise targeted at restoring environmental sanity to different parts of the state.
In his address, Mr. Odumboni stated that the purpose of the visit was to discuss the solid waste management of the university and also reach a concensus on how LAWMA can partner with the university to address some waste management issues within the state.
“This place is very central to the future of Lagos and in planning for the future, we think its important we come here and put things in place.”
“We must take into account that this campus is growing and so we must not treat the situation as if it was four years ago. This is why we are here to find a lasting solution to all of your waste disposal issues.”
In his response, the Head of Campus, Dr. Pao Adegbuyi, said he was happy to have the LAWMA’s team in the campus, as it was something he has eagerly looked forward to. He said the university is ready to partner with LAWMA and support them in whatever capacity.
“We want to collaborate with LAWMA on waste management. The campus is growing and we are hoping to have the faculty of environmental sciences here soon. We are growing and we are going to keep growing, so we need to do something to ensure the safety of all within the campus. We must be ready for the challenges ahead.”
As part of the visit, Dr. Adegbuyi led the LAWMA team around the campus to see their dumpsites.
Also, the advocacy team of LAWMA, went around Epe town persuading residents to cultivate the right attitude by patronizing the PSP Operator assigned to the locality. Residents were also encouraged to pay up their waste bills promptly.
