LASG SWEARS-IN MEMBERS OF LEKKI COASTAL RESETTLEMENT COMMITTEE

… Charges Nominees To Adhere Strictly To MoU

The Lagos State Government has sworn in the members of the newly reconstituted Lekki Coastal Resettlement Committee.

Speaking at the ceremony held on Tuesday in Ikeja, the State Commissioner for Commerce, Industry and Cooperatives, Mrs. Lola Akande, stated that the establishment of the six-man Committee is vital to resettling all those affected by the Lekki Project, adding that the committee members are to serve for a period of two years.

She revealed that the primary responsibility of the Committee is to plan, design, monitor and evaluate the resettlement of individuals and families that may be affected by the Lekki Free Zone Project.

Her words: “The primary role of the committee includes setting out the context and process for resettling and compensating affected individuals and families within the host community”.

“It is important to state that this newly reconstituted Resettlement Committee will work in strict compliance with the provisions of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to mitigate any maladministration of the resettlement land”, she added.

The Commissioner listed the members of the Committee as Alhaji Wasiu Olaomopo Aiyeola (Chairman), Alhaji Tajudeen Akorede Jegegde, Mrs. Sofiat Asumo, Mr. Jonathan Oluwadamilare Tijani, Alhaji Kamilu Abiodun Muslim and Mr. Toheeb Nola.

She, therefore, charged the team to provide a timetable of activities within the first three months of their inauguration and ensure strict adherence to the MoU in order to prevent the misapplication of roles and functions of the respective institutions.

Responding on behalf of other members, the Chairman of the Resettlement Committee, Alhaji Wasiu Oloamopo Aiyeola, expressed the readiness to work in consonance with the MoU drafted by the State Government.

This, he said, will ensure that the State Government and host communities are in agreement on all issues regarding the resettlement plan.
