The Independent National Electoral Commission Inec in improving the quality of the register voters and providing opportunities for eligible Nigerians to register to vote,the commission organized a workshop on continuous voters registration CVR Technological applications for heads of departments of Information communication technology ICT in all the 36 States and Fct in Lagos.
The workshop has in attendance the INEC Chairman Mahmood Yakubu who was represented by the National Commissioner and Chairman Information and Voters Education Barrister Festus Okoye,National Commissioner South West Dr.Adekunle Ogunmola, REC Lagos State Sam Olumekun Mni,Inec Chairman Technical Adviser Prof Bolade Eyinla, Hod's and the commission's partner Eces.
Bar Festus Okoye who represented the Chairman INEC said Nigerians have positively embraced the online registration process introduced by the commission and Nigerians from all works of life continue to visit the portal on a daily basis,he also encouraged the participants to use the privileged to master the new generation equipment deployed by the commission for continuous voter registration.
In his goodwill message the National Commissioner South West Adekunle Ogunmola encouraged the participants that whatever knowledge they acquire from the workshop should be passed to their junior colleagues inother to perform when getting to the field of work.
The resident electoral commissioner Lagos State Sam Olumekun Mni during his welcome address said Information communication technology plays an important role in organizing elections,he also noted that new technologies have played increasingly integral role in the organisation of elections around and this is generating interest in some cases among voters as well as the political class.
The project coordinator for European Centre for electoral support ECES Hamza Fasil said voter registration is at the bedrock of a credible and inclusive electoral system, it provides the licence for citizens to elect leaders during elections thereby giving expression to the popular definition of democracy as the government of the people, by the people and for the people.
The workshop on Cvr technological application holding in Lagos for head of department of Ict will last for 4days.
