The Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH), in conjunction with the Lagos State Primary Healthcare Board, has flagged off the COVID-19 vaccination exercise in LASUTH for health workers.
Speaking at the event, the Chief Medical Director of LASUTH, Prof Adetokunbo O. Fabamwo, described the flagging off of the COVID-19 vaccination exercise in LASUTH as an epoch-making occasion in line with the Federal Government’s effort to ensure that everyone is vaccinated in Nigeria.
He reiterated that vaccination is one of the ways of tackling the pandemic and encouraged everyone to get vaccinated as well as to continue to adhere to the other COVID-19 preventive guidelines.
While informing that the hospital had its share of worst effects of the pandemic, the CMD implored all staff to register and get vaccinated, stressing that it may not be mandatory to take the vaccine now but sooner or later, the possibilities of air travel may depend on evidence of vaccination.
“LASUTH workers belong to the first category of people to be vaccinated and we will vaccinate everyone who wishes to be vaccinated”, Dr. Fabamwo said.
The Acting Director of Clinical Services and Training, Dr. Adebowale Adekoya described the exercise as a privilege that should not be taken for granted, stressed that COVID-19 is real and urged people to ignore the anti-vaccination campaigns.
In her remarks, Professor Ololade Wright of the Community Health and Primary Healthcare Department, LASUTH, congratulated the Lagos State Government and the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital for the commencement of the COVID-19 vaccination.
She, however, lamented the mental illnesses, sicknesses and death resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic and charged the LASUTH Community to leverage on the opportunity to protect themselves from the pandemic by taking the COVID-19 vaccine.
The representative of Lagos State Primary Healthcare Board, Dr. Fawak Folashade, said it is a good thing that the government is recognising and prioritising the health workers.
The Director of Hospital Administration and Human Resources, Mr. Kehinde Gbajumo thanked God, the Federal, State, Local Governments, Agencies, Ministry of Health, PHC Board, Ikeja Local Government, the hospital management and the vaccination team for being instrumental to the exercise.
