The Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission(LASIEC) has pledged to work closely with the Inter-Party Advisory Council in the state on strengthening democracy at the grassroots and conducting credible council elections .
The Chairperson of the commission ,Justice Ayotunde Philips ,made the pledge when executive members of IPAC paid her a courtesy visit in her office.
She said the commission would continue to build and sustain synergy with IPAC to advance the course of democracy at the grassroots.
The LASIEC Chairperson noted that IPAC had been a reliable partner of the commission and that the relationship needed to be strengthened for mutual benefits .
"We have always had a good relationship with IPAC.The last executive had a very good relationship with us .The Chairman ,then was just like a member of LASIEC and he really assisted us in the last council elections in 2017..
"So we hope to have that kind of relationship with the current IPAC executive .We need to work together ,you can let us know what your concerns and we will share our own concerns so that when we listen to each other ,there won't be any problem",she said .
The LASIEC Chairperson said politics was for politicians and that the job of the commission as an umpire was to provide the right infrastructure for free and fair elections .
According to her ,there is usually politicking among politicians ,saying LASIEC was not created to play politics but to conduct transparent elections .
She urged IPAC to do its best to promote harmonious relationship among its fold ,pledging the support of the commission to the council where necessary.

Speaking ,Mr James Adeshina ,state Chairman of IPAC ,said the visit was to build synergy between LASIEC and new IPAC executive .
He commended the commission and the Ayotunde for the consistent support for IPAC ,saying the current would welcome stronger relationship with LASIEC .
Adeshina stressed that IPAC is not divided in the state ,saying the council remained one United family .
He said the IPAC would do its best to work with LASIEC to strengthen democracy at the grassroots .
