… Engages Top Government Officials on Due Process
The Lagos State Government, on Wednesday, assured Lagosians that the present administration will continue to follow due process in the implementation of its planned policies and programmes for the benefit of all residents.
The Head of Service, Mr. Hakeem Muri-Okunola stated this at a sensitisation workshop organised by the Central Internal Audit Office (CIAO), for all Permanent Secretaries, Tutors-General/Permanent Secretaries, Heads of Agencies and Parastatals of the State Government at Alausa, Ikeja.
The workshop, which was a hybrid of both physical and virtual in compliance with COVID-19 protocols and tagged “Reforms in Internal Audit and Importance of Due Process”, was geared towards the continuous development of the State Public Service.
The HoS, represented by the Permanent Secretary, Public Service Office, Mr. Samson Ajibade, described the workshop as timely, considering its focus on good governance and due process, which are integral parts of the T.H.E.M.E.S agenda of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu's administration.
He admonished the participants to see Auditors deployed to the various Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) as team players needed to ensure strict adherence to all necessary audit rules for accountability and transparency in all their engagements.
Earlier, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Central Internal Audit, Mr. Abayomi Oluyomi affirmed that governance is about the people, their welfare, security, growth, and development.
He described the participants at the workshop as the engine of growth in Lagos State Public Service, stressing that they must be very knowledgeable about all the reforms in auditing, being the cornerstone of public sector administration.
His words: “Auditors help public sector organisations achieve accountability and integrity, improve operations by providing unbiased and objective assessment of public sector, which helps to repose confidence among citizens and stakeholders”.
Oluyomi further stated that one of the objectives of the workshop is to create awareness on the specific changes in the regulatory and operational environment that impacts on the Key Performance Indices (KPI) for each of the MDAs which, according to him, will enhance the understanding and roles of Auditees amongst others.
The Permanent Secretary, Office of Internal Audit, Mrs. Olusola Oduguwa, made it known that the sensitisation workshop was informed by the need to boost excellent service delivery, saying “It is essential in improving and maintaining lasting synergy in every organisation”.
Oduguwa, in a paper she presented at the workshop, stated that Internal Auditing has evolved into a highly professional activity that extends to the appraisal of efficiency and effectiveness, noting that Auditors need to develop a productive relationship with stakeholders in order to achieve success.
