•Ondo Coalition 2020 adopts Gov. Akeredolu as its candidate
Ondo State Governor, Arakunrin Rotimi Akeredolu Aketi, SAN, has assured the people of the state that his administration would get from the federal government, a port declaration for the planned Deep Sea port project before the end of this year.
Governor Akeredolu disclosed this at a mega meeting held in Akure, the state capital, where he was adopted by the Ondo State Coalition 2020 as its governorship candidate for the October 10, 2020, gubernatorial poll in the state.
Coalition 2020, under the leadership of Mr Akin Akinbobola, comprises 30 political parties, religious leaders, opinion moulders, women groups, interest groups, political leaders and youth organisations.
At the election, where delegates of the group voted, Governor Akeredolu scored 162 votes, while the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) candidate, Hon. Agboola Ajayi emerged the first runner up with 89 votes, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) flagbearer Eyitayo Jegede polled 67 votes while Prince Dapo Adelegan of the ADC had six votes.
The Governor said the deep sea port project is the major priority of his administration, stressing that it is the only singular project that would become a game-changer not just for the state but the country.
Akeredolu, however, urged the people to vote for continuity saying only continuity of his administration can bring the actualization of Port Ondo into reality.
"We must vote for continuity for the stability of good governance and efficiency. All these are for our own advantage.
He assured that the group will begin a massive mobilization in all the units, wards, local governments for the re-election of Akeredolu.
He also cleared the air about the allegation that the group was bribed before adopting Akeredolu, saying their conscience is cleared that they didn't collect a kobo from the Governor.
