Johnnie Walker AfroExchange brought its
celebration of African creativity to Supremacy Concert 10 on Saturday, October
3, as Tiwa Savage, Wande Coal, Kizz Daniel took the stage at Eko Convention
Centre, Lagos. The tenth edition of the concert brought together music from
different periods of Nigeria’s contemporary sound, giving the platform a
fitting setting to explore how artists, influences and genres continue to meet
and shape the culture.
Tiwa Savage performed Koroba, Lova
Lova and more alongside female dancers, while Wande Coal appeared in an
orange double-breasted suit and took the audience back with Pere, a
nostalgic favourite from his early career, before performing Iskaba and
other hits. Kizz Daniel brought a commanding stage presence and strong
connection with the crowd, keeping the audience engaged as he moved through his
catalogue of contemporary Afropop hits. Together, the performances reflected
the different points at which these artists have become part of the Nigerian
music conversation, from songs that have stayed with audiences over time to
records that continue to define the present.
The Johnnie Walker AfroExchange experience
extended beyond the music, with Johnnie Walker Black cocktails served
throughout the night, with unique cocktail serves inspired by African culture.
The AfroExchange photo wall and craft session, anchored by the brand’s bold
gold Striding Man, also became a popular point of interaction and creative
exchange for guests. These elements brought the wider idea of Johnnie Walker
AfroExchange into the room, using music, drinks and visual culture to create a
space that reflected the different influences shaping contemporary African
culture.
Speaking on the partnership, Michele Mballa
Mekongo , Customer Marketing Manager said, “Keep Walking speaks to the people
who continue to find a way forward. That spirit is evident in African music,
where every generation draws from what came before and finds new ways to
express itself. The sound continues to evolve, but the influence of those who
shaped it remains.”
“Supremacy 10 gave us an opportunity to
celebrate that journey through Johnnie Walker AfroExchange. The artists
featured at the concert reflected the exchange at the heart of Nigerian music,
where different voices, experiences and sounds continue to influence one
another,” she added.
The evening also drew a mix of entertainment
and public figures, including Hon. Princess Lara Oyekan Olumegbon, while comedy
legend AY was among the hosts. For Johnnie Walker AfroExchange, the night
offered an opportunity to meet audiences where music, memory and culture
intersect, recognising the artists and influences that continue to give
Nigerian music its staying power.
