The attention of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Western Marine Command, has been drawn to reports concerning a fire incident that occurred at the premises of the Western Marine Command in Apapa, Lagos, on Monday, 28 September 2026. The incident occurred at approximately 1035 hours, when a fire outbreak was detected within some offices of the Command.
The Command wishes to confirm that the fire incident occurred at the Command premises and that officers on duty immediately activated emergency response protocols and made efforts to contain the fire. Personnel of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service arrived at approximately 1125 hours and successfully brought the fire under control.
Upon preliminary assessment, it was established that the fire affected some property and office equipment within the Command premises, with thick smoke initially noticed emanating from the newly constructed conference hall. However, the Service confirms that no loss of life or injury was recorded as a result of the incident.
The Command appreciates the prompt response of its officers and personnel of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service in containing the incident. The Command further assures members of the public and stakeholders that core operations at the Western Marine Command remain unaffected and continue as normal.
A committee has been constituted to investigate the immediate and remote causes of the fire and make appropriate recommendations to prevent a recurrence. The Command will continue to take necessary measures to safeguard its personnel and infrastructures.
The Command appreciates the cooperation of all relevant stakeholders and reaffirms its commitment to maintaining the highest standards of safety, security and operational efficiency across all its formations.
