The Nigeria Customs Service, Oyo/Osun Area Command*, has generated ₦65.6 billion in revenue between January and August 2026 and seized contraband worth *₦4.1 billion, including arms, ammunition and a hazardous chemical.
The Acting Customs Area Controller, *Deputy Comptroller Wale Moses Adewole*, disclosed this on Thursday, September 17, 2026, during a press briefing at the Command’s Operational Headquarters in Ibadan.
*Revenue Up by 13.88%*
DC Adewole said the Command collected *₦65,661,343,026.94* in the first eight months of 2026, compared to *₦57,656,161,990.24* collected in the same period in 2025.
This represents a 13.88 percent increase, which he attributed to effective revenue collection, trade facilitation and improved compliance strategies.
Massive Seizures in August
Giving a breakdown of anti-smuggling operations in August, Adewole said officers intercepted 21 categories of uncustomed goods with a *Duty Paid Value of ₦4,106,951,689.*
The seizures include:
- *2,012 bags of foreign parboiled rice (50kg)* and *550 bags (25kg)*
- *17 used vehicles (Tokunbo)* and *10 means of conveyance*
- *2,440 wraps of Cannabis Sativa* and *48 packs of Tramadol 225mg*
- *1,150 pieces of used tyres, 101 used compressors, 105 bales and 28 sacks of used clothing, 18 sacks of used shoes*
- *450 kegs of PMS (5,000 litres)*, 33 bottles of vegetable oil, 30 bags of foreign sugar
- *573 pieces of Nigeria Police Force Crest and 92 yards of Police camouflage fabric*
- *10 containers of Corrosive 8 Mercury*
- *1 pistol, 6 pistol magazines, 1 pump-action magazine, 60 detonating cords and 1 jack knife
The Controller described the interception of Police crests and camouflage uniforms as a serious security concern.
“The unauthorised possession of security agency uniforms can create serious security concerns. Such materials may be misused by criminal elements to impersonate law enforcement personnel and facilitate criminal activities,” he said.
He also raised alarm over the *10 containers of Corrosive 8 Mercury*, describing it as a hazardous chemical capable of causing fire, explosion, injury and loss of lives if mishandled.
“The interception helped to prevent potentially hazardous materials from entering circulation and being handled by unauthorised persons,” he added.
Adewole commended officers for their vigilance and intelligence-driven operations, stressing that the Command will continue to pay attention to items with implications for national security while facilitating legitimate trade.
