“Expansion is too much for inner road” CDA Chairman appeals to Sanwo-Olu_
Residents of Ikotun in Alimosho Local Government Area have appealed to the Lagos State Government to review the extent of demolition marks carried out ahead of a road expansion project in the community.
The appeal was made by the Chairman of Anuluakwa CDA, Engineer Mao Odofin, who said while residents appreciate government’s plan to develop the area, the current markings are too extensive for an inner road.
6 STREETS AFFECTED
According to Odofin, 6 streets have been marked for demolition. They include: Ishijola, Dare, Fentola, Fatimo, Murilo Sunde and Alanige.
He explained that officials gave residents a 7-day notice after marking the buildings.
“We thank government for remembering us and for developing our road. But the expansion is too much. This is an inner road. We want development, but please reconsider us so that people will not cry,” he said.
BUSINESSES, HOMES AT RISK
Odofin, a retiree of the Nigerian Reinsurance Corporation and also a realtor, said the markings threaten livelihoods in the area.
He cited Dare Street, known as a printers’ hub, and *Ishijola Street, lined with shops, as areas that would be wiped out if government goes ahead with the current plan.
“Even at the back of First Bank here, the marking is getting too much. I’m appealing to Lagos State Government to please temper justice with mercy and see to our complaint,” he added.
COMMUNITY’S REQUEST
The CDA Chairman said the community is not against development, but is asking the state government to scale down the demolition so that residents and business owners are not displaced unnecessarily.
Residents are urging Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu to intervene and ensure the road project balances development with the survival of the community.
