Staff of Globacom on Saturday gathered at The Stable in Surulere, Lagos, to enjoy various sporting activities as part of the company's 23rd anniversary celebration. The anniversary fell on the day. Being a Saturday, the workers took time out to enjoy and have fun in a friendly but competitive atmosphere.
Tagged Glo Fitfest 2026, the games included table tennis, Big Ludo, Big Snooker, Beer Pong, Sack Race, Big Ayo, and a football competition among various departments in the organization. The departments were grouped into clusters to also promote team spirit.
The staff who were decked in colourful T-shirts made specially for the event, had fun competing among themselves and renewing the energy that they have put in the business over its more than two decades existence.
The football competition was the highlight of the day not only because of the popularity of the game but also for the rivalry that the matches generated. Some of the teams brought in their colleagues who good players from outside Lagos. One common denominator was the desire to win over competing and 'rival' teams.
This strategy of flying its stars from the regions paid off for the Glo Rockets team, which consisted of the company's Sales force and Value Added Services Department. The team, which won the football competition, defeated Strikers FC made up of staff from the Rollout, Information Systems, Gloworld Development and E-Pin departments.
The winning football team received a giant cup and N1 million prize, while the runner-up got the sum of N750,000. Players of both teams also received medals for their performance. Equally, winners of the various games also received medals and cash prizes.
Apart from the sportsmanship on display, the event was a hugely successful engagement for many of the staff members. The relaxed and convivial atmosphere allowed Glo staff to dance and have fun at every opportunity.
