The Executive Chairman of Lagos Mainland Local Government, Mayor Jubril Kolawole Emilagba, on Tuesday 25th August 2026 joined Muslim faithful and residents to celebrate the 2026 Maulid Nabiyy, using the occasion to preach peace, unity, and love across the community.
The event, held in the heart of Lagos Mainland, brought residents together in remembrance of Prophet Muhammad (SAW). It featured lectures, a Quranic competition, and presentation of gifts.
Speaking at the gathering, Mayor Emilagba said the purpose was to engage directly with the people and share messages of togetherness.
“What we are doing today is to bring our people together. We are bringing lecturers to talk to our people, to advise and guide them. The President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria has been doing his best. We cannot go to every home, so we sit down with our people to know the next step for us, especially during this Maulid Nabiyy period,” he said.
He described the celebration as a sign of love and a demonstration of care for residents across religious lines.
“I have been looking forward to this day and planning for it. Since I had the opportunity to become the Executive Chairman, I thought of our people first because that gives me peace of mind. I live within this community and this local government. I need to listen to them, take care of them, and know their problems. That is why we are trying to unite our people,” he added.
The Chairman noted that the spirit of unity extends beyond Maulid. He disclosed that the Christian Association of Nigeria is also involved, and plans are underway for a Christmas Carol celebration.
“Last week, we celebrated with our people and distributed food in front of Lagos Mainland Local Government. We did this for both Christians and Muslims. We are doing all this just to make our people happy and to pass one message: that we should love one another,” he said.
He urged residents to continue showing love and unity regardless of religion or background.
“Love among yourselves. Being a Christian or a Muslim does not matter. What matters is the love we share. That is why I keep sending this message: Love brings unity. We need the community,” he concluded.
Gifts and Support for the Community
As part of his commitment, Mayor Emilagba presented a new bus to the Muslim Community of Lagos Mainland LGA to support their activities and programs.
The program also featured a Quranic competition among 7 Madrasat houses in the local government, while 1st Prize got: Freezer + Cash prize; 2nd Prize: Sewing machine + Cash prize;3rd Prize: Grinding machine + Cash prize.
The winners appreciated the Chairman for the gesture and urged him to do more.
The event was attended by: All Chief Imams from different divisions in Lagos Mainland LGA, Community Leaders, Stakeholders & Political Representatives, Lagos West Youth Team, APC Women Leaders & APC Apex Leaders, Baales, and Oba Oloto of Lagos Mainland and Environs.
Other prominent leaders present eulogized the Chairman for his efforts in restoring unity to the community, describing the Maulid Nabiyy celebration as “one of its kind in Lagos State.”
