The Executive Chairman of Lagos Mainland Local Government, Mayor Emilagba Jubril Kolawole, says his administration has delivered “tangible results” across infrastructure, education, health, security, welfare and tourism in the last one year.
He made the assertion on Tuesday, August 4, 2026, during a Mega Empowerment event to celebrate his one year in office, held at the Council Secretariat on Apapa Road.
Speaking at the stewardship programme, the Chairman said the achievements belong to all residents and stakeholders working to build a better Lagos Mainland.
“Today is not just a celebration of time, but a celebration of tangible results, renewed trust, and meaningful governance driven by service to our people,” he said.
“I made a clear promise: To build a Government that delivers, listens, and leads with integrity,” Mayor Emilagba added.
Major Achievements in One Year
*Works and Infrastructure*
The Chairman listed completed projects including:
- Reconstruction of the road network from Jebba through Tapa Street down to Oko Baba with drainage on both sides
- Construction of Freeman Road drainage
- Reconstruction of Oroku Road with drainage at Apapa Road
- Renovation of U.N.A Primary School and deflooding of Kadara Primary School
- Rehabilitation of box culverts in Ebute Metta East
- Renovation of the Council Secretariat
- Maintenance of roads such as Ademuyiwa, Ijero, Abule-Nla/Afric Road, and Borno/Kano
Under the _Light Up Lagos Mainland Project, the administration also installed 410 solar-powered streetlights. The council further purchased a new staff bus, an official bus for market leaders, and vehicles for councilors.
*Security, Youth and Sports*
On security, Emilagba said the council strengthened collaboration with the police, military and local agencies, enhanced surveillance, and reconstructed the Odaliki Police Post into a modern station.
For youth development, the council distributed *14 Korope vehicles* to youths, organized the Lagos Mainland Peace Cup football competition, and launched the _A Day Chairman Programme_ to inspire leadership among young people.
*Empowerment and Social Welfare*
The administration disbursed ₦130 million to artisans, traders, entrepreneurs and small business owners. It also ran the _Ounje Emi-1_ food palliative in 10 phases, and distributed food items during Ramadan, Lent and Eid-el-Kabir, including rams, cows, chickens and bags of rice.
Other initiatives include welfare support for widows, sponsorship of Hajj and Jerusalem pilgrimage, Women’s Assembly, International Women’s Day, and partnership with LSETF and LASHMA for entrepreneurship training.
*Health and Education*
In health, the council organized free medical outreaches including hernia surgery, cataract tests and free eyeglasses, and renovated the Simpson Healthcare Centre in partnership with APM Terminals.
In education, *500 free GCE forms* and *750 free JAMB forms* were distributed to indigent students. The council also gave out *100,000 free notebooks* and school bags, organized free summer coaching, NIIT ICT training for teachers, and hosted the 2025 Spelling Bee Competition.
*Environment and Administration*
Environmental efforts included sanitation at Iddo and White Sand Markets, desilting of drainage channels, distribution of waste bins to PHCs, and monthly sanitation exercises.
For staff welfare, the council held training workshops, provided monthly financial support, productivity bonuses, and cash awards for best staff.
“Only the Beginning of a New Dawn”
The Chairman described the one year as “only the beginning of a new dawn” and thanked traditional rulers, religious leaders, civil servants and residents for their support.
“Together, we will continue to lift Lagos Mainland to greater heights. Together, we will build a community of peace, prosperity, and opportunities,” he said.
The event also featured the distribution of various gift items to thousands of Lagos Mainland residents. Items included cash donations of ₦1 million each, deep freezers, sewing machines, grinding machines, stoning machines, gas cylinders, food items, soft drinks, bottled water and tourism.
The Chairman noted that tourism and SME support were also key components of the empowerment drive to boost local businesses.
Dignitaries at the event included tye Apex Leader in Mainland, Hon. Olawale Oshun;APC House of Representatives candidate for Lagos Mainland Federal Constituency, Hon. Kazeem Omolaja; top leaders Hon. Jide Jimoh and Hon. Monsuru Owolabi; Royal father, Opeluwa Onido of Lagos, High Chief Abdul-Lateef Opeluwa; security chiefs and other notable political leaders in the Local Government.
