Customs Releases Final List of 3,852 Successful Candidates for 2024/2025 Recruitment

The Nigeria Customs Service has released the final list of successful candidates for its 2024/2025 recruitment exercise, with 3,852 applicants selected from a pool of 573,680.

The Comptroller General of Customs announced the results on Monday during a press briefing in Abuja, describing the process as rigorous and transparent.

According to the CG, 1,275 candidates were selected into the Superintendent Cadre, 367 into the Inspectorate Cadre, and 2,210 into the Customs Assistant Cadre. The exercise, which opened in December 2024, concludes with this publication.

Apologizing for the delay, the CG explained that the timeline was extended by the huge volume of applications, high retirement rates in senior management, and the Service’s determination to ensure merit and due diligence.  

“Every candidate on this list has passed through several distinct layers of scrutiny: application screening, computer-based examination, and verification of credentials against the national identity database,” he said.  

“I am prepared to defend this list on its merits.”

*Selection Was Highly Competitive*

The CG disclosed that the overall success rate was 0.67%, or roughly one place for every 148 applicants.  

The Inspectorate Cadre was the most competitive with one in 350 applicants selected, followed by Superintendent at one in 217, and Customs Assistant at one in 76.

He urged the over 560,000 unsuccessful applicants not to be discouraged, noting that the next recruitment would come much sooner.

*Federal Character, Gender and Age*

The CG said all 36 states and the FCT are represented. Each state got 105 places, 35 Superintendent, 10 Inspectorate and 60 Customs Assistant, while the FCT got 72, in line with the Federal Character principle.

Women secured 839 of the 3,852 places, representing 21.8%. The CG noted that women had a marginally better selection rate than men: one in 144 for women against one in 150 for men.

The median age of successful candidates is 26 years, with close to three-quarters under 30.

*Annual Recruitment From 2026*

In a major policy shift, the CG announced that the Service will now run an annual recruitment cycle.  

“The 2026 Recruitment Exercise will open later this year, and it is my firm intention that it will be completed within a single calendar year,” he said.  

“This will allow us to plan our manpower against known retirements and give young Nigerians certainty.”

Successful candidates will be contacted directly via the details provided in their applications. The CG warned that recruitment is free and urged the public to report anyone soliciting payment.

“To the 3,852 men and women whose names appear on this list: congratulations. You have earned your place in a field of more than half a million,” he said.

The full list will be published on the official Nigeria Customs Service website and notice boards across state commands.
