In a landmark event that will be remembered for generations, the Executive Chairman of Lagos Mainland Local Government, Mayor (Dr.) Jubril Kolawole Emilagba, has once again demonstrated visionary leadership by immortalising some of Lagos Mainland’s most distinguished sons through the official naming of several streets in their honour.
The historic ceremony, held as part of the grand celebration of the 70th Birthday Anniversary of former Executive Chairman, Dr. Babatunde Sulaiman Larinde, brought together political leaders, traditional rulers, party faithful, community stakeholders, residents, family members, and well-wishers to witness an occasion that celebrated excellence, selfless service, and enduring legacies.
Speaking during the event, Mayor Emilagba stated that the decision to rename the streets was borne out of the administration’s commitment to preserving history and ensuring that the sacrifices and remarkable contributions of exceptional leaders remain permanently etched in the hearts of present and future generations.

Among the streets officially renamed were Freeman Street, now named after Hon. Monsuru Alao Owolabi; Jones Street, renamed in honour of Hon. Olajide Jimoh; Glover Street, now officially bearing the name of Dr. Babatunde Sulaiman Larinde; as well as another street in Iponri named after Hon. Oladele Aroyewun in recognition of his outstanding contributions to the growth of the community.
Mayor Emilagba emphasized that the initiative reflects an administration that believes in honouring excellence while people are alive to appreciate such recognition. He described the honourees as leaders whose dedication, commitment to public service, and unwavering passion for community development have inspired countless individuals across Lagos Mainland.
