Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu has been serving as the Senator for Abia North Senatorial District since June 2019.
During this period, he has focused extensively on philanthropy, community development, education, and empowerment initiatives, primarily through his legislative influence, personal efforts, and the Orji Uzor Kalu Foundation. These efforts have targeted underserved communities in Abia North (including Ohafia, Arochukwu, Bende, Isuikwuato, and Umunneochi LGAs) and beyond, emphasizing sustainable development, job creation, and human capital building.
Below is a near comprehensive compilation of his key achievements in the specified areas as it is quite difficult to capture all his accomplishments. This long list is drawn from various sources including news reports, OUK foundation activities, and public statements.

Philanthropy:
Dr. Kalu’s philanthropic work has centered on supporting vulnerable groups such as the less privileged, orphans, people with disabilities, women, and rural communities. Much of this is channeled through the Orji Uzor Kalu Foundation, which he founded to promote free healthcare, education, and social impact. 
• Free Healthcare Initiatives:
Provided free healthcare outreach programs, including medical support for women and general community health services. This builds on his earlier legacy but has continued post-2019 with targeted outreaches in Abia North. 
• Support for Vulnerable Populations:
Announced plans to assist orphans, people with disabilities, and the less privileged through foundation programs. In September 2025, he outlined visions for expanded aid during an internal foundation meeting.   
• Donations to Institutions: In July 2020, donated solar panels worth over ₦20 million to Kuje Prison to improve living conditions, demonstrating his commitment to humanitarian aid beyond his constituency.

As Chairman of the Senate Committee on Privatization (since August 2023) and the South East Development Commission (SEDC), he has leveraged federal resources for regional impact.  
• Road Infrastructure: Constructed and connected over 160 rural roads across Abia North, including Ndi Orieke–Ohafia Road, Amankalu–Abiriba Road, Akoli Imenyi Road (Bende LGA), Lokpaukwu-Lokpanta Road (Umunneochi LGA), and others under reconstruction in Arochukwu, Ohafia, Isuikwuato, and Umunneochi.
These have reduced post-harvest losses for farmers and improved market access, with over 70 roads completed by 2024.   
  
• Solar Lighting and Energy Projects:
Installed solar-powered street lights in over 150 communities, enhancing safety and economic activities. Attracted a solar light manufacturing factory as part of $500 million in foreign direct investment (FDI).   
• Industrial and Economic Projects:
Facilitated a cashew processing factory and tricycle assembly plants in Igbere (Bende LGA), employing over 5,000 youths and adding value to agriculture (potential $3.7 billion national contribution). Signed a multimillion-dollar deal with Zhu Gongstan of GCL Group for renewable energy and lithium battery projects, creating 3,000 direct and 4,000 indirect jobs. Attracted ~$500 million FDI, including ag farms for cassava and cocoa. 
• SEDC Leadership:
As SEDC Chairman, secured a ₦140 billion budget for 2025 and proposed ₦25 billion for 2026 to revive health and education projects across the South East. Aimed for a $200 billion regional economy by 2035.

Constructed hospitals in his constituency and supported community health through foundation outreaches.  
Education
Education remains a cornerstone of Kalu’s tenure, continuing his governorship-era free education policy. He has rehabilitated schools, provided materials, and offered scholarships to promote access, especially in STEM and vocational fields.    
• School Construction and Renovation:
Facilitated over 200 schools, including 140 new builds and 100+ renovations across Abia North. In 2024 alone, constructed/rehabilitated ~100 schools. Built over 120 classroom blocks with STEM focus.      
• Educational Materials Distribution: Supplied free textbooks, school bags, uniforms, books, desks, and chairs to nearly all public schools in Abia North from 2020 onward. Donated 25 study desks to Enemba Primary School in Igbere (2025).    

• Scholarships and Programs:
Awarded scholarships to numerous students via the foundation, including international opportunities in medicine, management, technology, chemistry, and business administration (e.g., in South America and China). Supported over 50 undergraduates and 3 postgraduates abroad. Plans to cover JAMB fees for 2,000 students (announced 2025). Provided ₦75,000 scholarships to top performers and ₦25,000 bursaries to 750 undergraduates.   
       
• Curriculum and Infrastructure Advocacy: Advocated for STEM curriculum reforms, funded school improvements like libraries and labs in rural areas, and built hostels in secondary/tertiary institutions.   
Empowerment (Youth, Women, Agriculture, etc.)
Kalu has empowered thousands through skills training, asset distribution, and entrepreneurship support to promote self-reliance and reduce unemployment.   
• Youth and Women Empowerment:
Provided financial grants, mentorship, and assets like sewing machines, refrigerators, generators, motorcycles, tricycles, and laptops to thousands. Organized a free cinematography seminar (with free laptops/cameras) and agricprenuership training.

Distributed over 1,000 cassava processing machines, fertilizers, rice seedlings, and farm inputs to farmers across 103 wards, boosting output and reducing costs (especially for women farmers).
