On the afternoon of Wednesday, 8th October 2025, the Nigeria Customs Service, Kebbi Area Command, held its first maiden press briefing under the leadership of the new Customs Area Controller, Kebbi Command Comptroller Mahmoud Matawalle Ibrahim, fdc.
The event was graced by notable personalities including Assistant Comptroller General (ACG) of Nigeria Agricultural Quarantine Service (NAQS) Adamu Isah Gano, ably represented by Superintendent of Quarantine Muhammad Bashir Abdulrazaq; Commander of Narcotics, National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) Kebbi State Command, Mr. Rabiu Abdullahi Sokoto; and the Commander, Operation Whirlwind Zone B, Assistant Comptroller of Customs N.O. Edet, alongside other senior officers and stakeholders.
In his address, Comptroller Matawalle highlighted the Command’s remarkable achievements within his first month in office. He commended the efforts and unwavering dedication of officers under Operation Whirlwind Zone B, whose operations led to the seizure of 14,750 litres of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) with an estimated value of ₦8,850,000.
Similarly, officers of the Kebbi Area Command intercepted an additional 20,975 litres of PMS, valued at ₦12,585,000, bringing the total quantity to 35,725 litres. In accordance with extant laws, the seized PMS will be auctioned to the public, with all proceeds remitted into the coffers of the Federal Government.
On revenue generation, the Command recorded a 36.13% increase in earnings compared to the previous month of August. The Command generated Twenty Five Million, Six Hundred and Twenty One Thousand, Six Hundred and Nine Naira, Twenty Six Kobo Only (₦25,621,609.26) in September, reflecting a commendable improvement in performance.
In the anti-smuggling drive, the Command made several notable seizures within the past month. These include: 100 bales of second-hand clothing, 444 laptop-sized wraps of Cannabis Sativa, 143 mini sacks of donkey meat, 140 cartons of foreign spaghetti,100 bags of foreign parboiled rice, and 20 jerrycans of vegetable oil.
The Duty Paid Value (DPV) of all the seized items stands at One Hundred and Nine Million, Five Hundred and Ninety Five Thousand, Seven Hundred and Sixty One Naira Only (₦109,595,761).
In the spirit of interagency collaboration, Comptroller Matawalle officially handed over 444 wraps of Cannabis Sativa and 143 sacks of donkey meat to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) and the Nigeria Agricultural Quarantine Service (NAQS) respectively. The representatives of both agencies commended the Customs Area Controller and pledged to sustain the partnership in combating the inflow and outflow of illicit items across the borders.
