In a remarkable demonstration of his commitment to youth development and empowerment, the Executive Chairman of Yaba Local Council Development Area, Hon. (DR.) Bayo Adefuye,has fulfilled one of his key campaign promises to recognize and reward exceptional youths who distinguish themselves in sports at the state, national, or West African levels.
In line with this, Abdullahi Saheed Olamilekan, who recently emerged as the West African Boxing Union (WABU) and Nigeria Boxing Board of Control (NBBofC) Champion, will soon be officially appointed as a Council Ambassador in recognition of his outstanding achievements in boxing.
Hon. (DR.) Bayo Adefuye announced that any youth within Yaba LCDA who wins laurels or achieves notable sporting success will be officially recognized and appointed as an Ambassador of the Council. This initiative, he noted, aims to encourage healthy competition, promote discipline, and inspire other young people to channel their energy into productive sporting activities.
According to him, “We are determined to build a generation of focused, talented, and responsible young men and women through sports. Recognizing our champions is one way of showing them that Yaba LCDA values excellence and hard work. When our youths see their peers being celebrated, they too will be motivated to take sports and personal development more seriously.”
The Chairman emphasized that sports have remained a powerful tool for unity and community development, adding that his administration would continue to invest in youth-friendly initiatives and infrastructure that promote physical fitness, leadership, and skill acquisition.
The decision has been widely applauded by residents, youth leaders, and sports enthusiasts across the council area, who described it as a visionary move that will further strengthen the spirit of community pride and engagement among the younger generation.
