The Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC) and the Lagos State Police Command are collaborating to ensure a smooth and secure local government election process on Saturday, July 12th. The election will take place in all 20 Local Government Areas and 37 Local Council Development Areas.
According to Hon. Justice Mobolanle Abidemi Okikiolu-Ighile, Chairman of LASIEC,said the commission is committed to neutrality, and the electoral process will be free, transparent, fair, and inclusive. She made this assurance during a stakeholders' meeting with political parties at the commission's headquarters in Lagos.
The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Moshood Jimoh, assured party representatives and Lagosians that the police are fully prepared to secure the election. With 13,375 polling units to be secured, the police will deploy adequate security personnel starting from Friday, July 11th, to ensure a hitch-free election. A control room will be set up at the Lagos State Police Command to monitor the election process.
CP Moshood also announced that a joint security exercise will be conducted on Thursday, July 10th, involving military and other federal security agencies that will participate in the local government election. This exercise aims to ensure a secure environment for the election.
