The Honorable Minister, Hon. Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim has hit the ground running since her appointment in the Police Affairs ministry with innovative ideas and winning solutions. Her most recent approach to policing is the forum which 'aims to foster an environment of collaboration and commitment to achieving a safer Nigeria through effective policing and community engagement.
The Townhall meeting had in attendance Governor of Lagos State,Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, The Inspector General of Police,IGP Kayode Egbetokun,Youth Leaders,Academia,Religious Leaders,Government Officials and other notable stakeholder in the police affairs.
The Honorable Minister, Hon. Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim in her presentation said the town hall meeting aims to provide a platform for direct engagement between the Ministry of Police Affairs, citizens, and other critical policing stakeholders accross Nigeria. She also said that the objective is to foster a transparent dialogue, share insights on ongoing policing reforms,and gather valuable feedback from citizens on strengthening policing in general, but also specific to a community policing strategy. She then said at the end of the meeting the expected outcomes include increased openness and transparency in communication between the ministry of Police Affairs and citizens, fostering trust and understanding.
Governor of Lagos State in his remark Lagos State Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, reiterated his administration’s commitment to security, saying the State Government has always been in support of the desire to embrace community policing as a strategy to enhance the safety of lives and property.
Governor Sanwo-Olu said Lagos State has over the years supported the Nigeria Police in ensuring effective community policing.
The Governor who was part of the panelists, also called for modernisation of the security architecture and operations with the deployment of state-of-the-art technology for improved efficiency, noting that the security personnel need smartphones to enhance information dissemination and intelligence.
The Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, in his remark said the choice to host the first Renewed Hope Agenda Citizens Townhall Engagement in Lagos was based on the social, political and economic importance, hence the need to feel the purse of Lagosians on security in diverse ways.
He also said the Minstry and Police are working on a plan to reshape the police and transform them.
Some other stakeholder that spoke during the event said the engagement on community policing was a step that would lead to a safer Nigeria, encourage increased collaboration and meaningful dialogue that will enhance the safety and security of lives and property.
