Lekki Adult Literacy & Vocational Centre Host Inaugural Sports and Talent Fiesta

This year's matriculation and graduation ceremony of the Adult Literacy & Vocational Centre was marked with an inaugural Sports and Talent Fiesta in Lekki on the 28th of October, 2023.

The Centre provides adult education and vocational training for all and sundry who are interested in learning.

It was an exciting moment as the competing students thrilled the audience in the game of sports, dance, drama, and other talent shows.

The event began with a match past from the students who were arranged into various teams headed by a facilitator and competed in sports events like the Sack Race, Lime & Spoon, Thread and Needle, and Facilitators Race. The students also participated in a debate session, drama, and dancing sessions which drew praises and applause from the guests.

At the end of the event, trophies were presented to the winners. Team 4 was announced as the overall best in all competitions to the excitement of the team members, who stormed onto the pitch with jubilation.

Addressing the audience earlier at the event, Mrs. George Esther, Director of Safety Training, Education and Skills, Lagos State Safety Commission, gave some safety tips while commanding the Centre for the consistency and sacrifice made by the leaders. She advised the students to be committed to their studies.  He also called for more entry and assured the Centre of the continuous support of the Lagos State Government.

The Coordinator of the Centre, Mr. Joe Mbulu, while addressing the Press conveyed his satisfaction after a successful event.
“I’m excited especially for the learners to see them in that exciting mood because that is the reason we organized this event, to give them a sense of belonging, to expose them to embrace teamwork, leadership, and followership in an environment where they feel loved."

He added that “the adult literacy and vocational program is an initiative intended for reconstructing foundations that were distorted by cultures, orientation, and poverty. We decided to introduce sports and other extracurricular activities for the learners to attain wholeness – physically, mentally, and psychologically. Ideally, we want to give them wholesome learning".

Mbulu further noted that "it is a volunteer service. The facilitators teach the students all that they have done here today for free, they come here every Saturday to train them".

He applauded the Lagos State Government for supporting the Lekki Adult Literacy and Vocational Centre and stressed the need for sponsorship to help them reach out to many more learners.

The graduation activity of the 2023 batch will be held on the 4th of November, 2023, in Lagos.
