The Management of the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH), on Tuesday, 19th of September, 2023, received members of the Lagos State House of Assembly, who came on a visit to assess the expert care being given to the patient who had a corrective surgery in LASUTH on the 14th of July, 2023, following a referral from a private hospital where he had two previous surgeries.
The 7-man Ad-Hoc Committee Members led by the Majority Leader of the House of Assembly, Hon. Noheem Adams, was received by the Honourable Commissioner for Health, Prof. Akin Abayomi, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Dr. Olusegun Ogboye, the Chief Medical Director, LASUTH, Prof. Adetokunbo O. Fabamwo and other members of the top management of the hospital.
Hon. Noheem Adams, revealed the purpose of their visit, “this Committee was set up to investigate the case of the boy whose mother alleged his son’s intestine went missing during surgery. The result of our investigations would be made public once it is concluded", he said.
While speaking, he appreciated the Chief Medical Director, Prof. Adetokunbo. O Fabamwo and all the health professionals who have ensured that all hands are on deck while giving excellent care to the patient. He assured the patient and his parents that the Governor is doing everything necessary to make sure he gets the best possible treatment.
The Lagos State Commissioner for Health, Prof. Akin Abayomi, appreciated the Speaker of the House of Assembly, Hon. Mudashiru Obasa for setting up the ad-hoc committee, to help in the process of understanding what transpired between the patient and the hospitals. He said, “there had been series of interactions and gathering of the necessary information required for a thorough investigation through several visits.”
He went on to laud the leadership of the hospital and his team for the commitment and efforts rendered in the life-saving medical intervention performed for the boy. He said, " the ministry of Health, is looking into advanced medical procedures and treatment possibilities that would further improve the boy’s health, for now, the boy is stable.”
The Chief Medical Director, Prof. Adetokunbo O. Fabamwo, assured that all hands have been on deck since the boy’s case started, “as a tertiary health institution, we have all kinds of experts, which include Pediatricians with different specialties; all these health professionals are involved in the patient’s case, he said.
Other members of the Lagos State House of Assembly present include; Hon, Temitope Jah, Hon. Lawal Adeseyi, Hon. Tijani Suraju, Hon. Stephen Ogundipe, Hon. Lawal Aina, and Hon. Jimoh Orelope.
