LASUTH MANAGEMENT HOLDS REFRESHER TRAINING FOR MONITORING CREW

To ensure the smooth running of the hospital at all times and to ensure that hospital activities are devoid of service interruption, the management of the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH), held a refresher training for the Monitoring Crew Unit recently at the Seminar Room of the Institute of Maternal Child and Child Health (Ayinke House).

The Chief Medical Director of LASUTH, Prof. Adetokunbo O. Fabamwo, during his opening remarks, charged the members of the Unit to be keep up their level of proactiveness. 

He brought to fore the fact that medical services in LASUTH is widely sought after, which would mean more responsibilities on the crew but encouraged them to be more strategic at implementing processes that will eventually reflect their effectiveness as a team. The CMD encouraged the monitoring crew to focus on the cardinal areas within the hospital which are the Emergency Wards, laboratories, Records and Pharmacy.

The Director Clinical Services and Training, Prof. Adebowale Adekoya, gave a refresher lecture expatiating on the vision of the monitoring crew and their core deliverables. He noted that the aim of the team eventually culminates at setting the hospital at a pedestal where LASUTH would rub shoulders with widely acclaimed international health institutions. 

The DCST advised them to put in their ‘A’ game at all times because the Monitoring Crew Unit is a very important Unit in the hospital whose relevance cannot be over emphasized. He rounded off his lecture by letting the Unit know that the Management is always ready to support the team in ensuring they perform their duties optimally as always.

On the need for effective communication, the Deputy Clinical Medical Advisory Committee (CMAC), Dr. Bamidele Ayodele, encouraged the team to make use of the Situation, Background, Assessment and Recommendation (SBAR) communication tool to build up effective work procedures among the team members. He opined that good communication enhances better work flow and should not be underestimated.

The Head of Monitoring Crew, Mrs. Cecelia Ogundeko, also lectured the crew on the hospital’s policy. She noted that the all Clinical Units of the hospital has to be monitored strictly for quality service delivery. 

She also relayed the areas where new policies had been issued and advised that strict adherence is key.  She concluded that the Monitoring Crew is the eye of the hospital, especially after working hours and other non-working days, like public holidays. 

Therefore, effective team behavior, teamwork with the patient, care, discipline, communication with team members, and family, intra-profession, inter-profession via verbal, text, written and telephone is very important.
