LAGOS WINS NATIONAL SCIENTISTS AWARD


 

              



… Emerges 1st in Biology, 10th Overall

 

Master Okocha Emmanuel Abah, a student of Sasa Community Senior High School,  Alimosho Local Government Area of Lagos, has won the 1st position in Biology and 10th overall  at the National Final Science Competitive Examination in this year’s edition of  the 774 Young Nigerian Scientists Presidential Award (774 – YONSPA). He received an Academic Award Certificate for the outstanding feat.


Lagos State Commissioner for Science and Technology, Mr. Hakeem Fahm, while congratulating the winner for making Lagos State proud, disclosed that the Technology and Innovation Expo was aimed at showcasing Research and Development results, products and services of inventive minds in the country.

 

Fahm said that Master Abah was sponsored to the national competition by the Lagos State Government after he emerged a winner in an exercise organised by the State Ministry of Science and Technology.

 

He pointed out that the accomplishment justified the T.H.E.M.E.S Agenda’s transformational programme and huge investments in the education sector, especially with regards to the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) concepts.

 

Revealing that it was the first time Lagos State Government participated at the Federal Government Science Technology and Innovation EXPO and Young Science Student Presidential Award organised by Federal Ministry of Science and Technology in Abuja, Mr. Fahm said: “This administration will continue to support the Science, Technology and Innovation Sector by expanding the opportunities for those in the fields. Sponsorship of this Expo is a practical demonstration of this commitment.”

 

During the event, the Ministry displayed some innovations sponsored by the Lagos State Research and Innovation Council (LASRIC) such as Ambu-bag Ventilator, 9ijakids Educational Game, Shivatech Low tech, Low-cost non-invasive ventilator for COVID-19 patients and Givo processing of local recyclables for the reproduction of usable materials.
