LAGOS SET TO HOLD Y2021 MAY DAY CELEBRATION

The Lagos State Government is set to hold the annual May Day celebration, a day set aside to commemorate the outstanding contributions of workers to the development of the country.

The Commissioner for Establishments, Training and Pensions, Mrs. Ajibola Ponnle, who made the disclosure today, noted that workers are worth celebrating because of their contributions, support and being reliable partners in nation-building as well as their efforts towards uplifting the country to greater heights.

She said the theme of the Y2021 May Day celebration, “COVID-9 Pandemic, Social and Economic Crisis Challenges for Jobs, Social Protection and People’s Welfare”, is apt considering the impact of the disease on the economic and social life of the citizens of Lagos State.

Ponnle expressed hope that the theme of this year’s celebration will help both private and public organisations to stem the impact of the pandemic as it relates to jobs, social protection and people’s welfare.

"This year’s event will be held in strict compliance to COVID-19 guidelines and protocols. Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu is expected to attend the event as the Chief Host, while the Commissioner for Establishments, Training and Pensions, Mrs. Ajibola Ponnle and the Special Adviser to the Governor on Labour and Industrial Relations, Comrade Babatunde Williams are the co-hosts", she noted.
