Lagos State Health Service Commission, on Tuesday, held a virtual induction training programme geared towards educating over 700 newly recruited healthcare workers on Ethics and Ethos guiding the Public Service.
Speaking during the virtual programme held at the Lagos Island Maternity Training centre, the Commission's Permanent Secretary, Dr. Benjamin Eniayewun, charged the inductees to dedicate themselves to service delivery devoid of inimical activities detrimental to Public Service order.
He said, "COVID -19 crippling effects have so far truncated basic practices to 'new-normal' operational methods of job execution. Hence, l urge you all to keep up with the tide expected of your professional proficiency for qualitative delivery".
While highlighting some of the job benefits, the Permanent Secretary recognised that “Apart from the financial benefits of your monthly salaries, the psychological benefits and training on the job cannot be under-estimated. You would certainly learn on the job, even as your progress peaks towards remarkable standards expected of resourceful professionals".
"Thus, I implore you to be of good conduct and avoid practices inimical to your professional ethics, as these could hamper your career progression. Remember, the Sky is only but the beginning", he added.
The representatives of various Directorates of the Commission presented papers on the guiding professional ethics, just as participants were allowed to engage in interactive quiz sessions following each presentation, as a form of feedback on the initiative.
Amongst the presenters were Dr. Gbenga Oyekan, Director, Medical Services; Mrs. Kehinde Etti of the Directorate, Career Management; Mrs. Olatokunbo Adio, Director, Administration and Human Resources; Mrs. Laide Animashaun, Director, Finance and Accounts; Mr. Olanrewaju Kajopelaiye-Ola, Director, Pharmaceutical Services; Pharmacist Segun Onakoya, Service Delivery Unit of the Service Charter; Dr. Omolara Oyadotun and Pharmacist Adedoyin Adebayo-Tukur among others.
Recall that following the approval by the State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, 774 new healthcare employees were recruited from October - December 2020, to complement work delivery across the 27 Public Health Facilities of the State.
