REGIONAL ROAD ALIGNMENT: APPEALS COMMITTEE EMBARKS ON FACT-FINDING VISIT

Sequel to the barrage of complaints bordering on the alignment of the Regional Road, the Lagos State Physical Planning and Building Control Appeals Committee visited the area on Sunday to carry out an on-the-spot assessment.

The Chairman of the Committee, Tpl. Ayodele Adediran, who led the fact-finding mission, stated that the visit became necessary as part of ongoing investigations to clear misgivings surrounding the alignment of the Regional Road and advising the government appropriately.

He recalled that the Committee had been inundated with petitions suggesting that the alignment of the road was willfully compromised to allow for the level of encroachment that the project had witnessed.

In his words: "I believe that with this visit, members of the Appeals’ Committee will be in good stead to better appreciate all the surrounding issues, including the level of encroachment, extent and impact of official complicity, if any, as well as implications for the swift and smooth delivery of the project".

Tpl. Adediran said that the committee would rely on information gathered from the visit in taking its decisions among other considerations and make recommendations to the government.

Recall that the Physical Planning and Building Control Appeals Committee was inaugurated by Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu last December, as part of the framework of the Lagos Urban Regional Planning and Development Laws of 2019 (as amended), which provides for a public engagement channel for stakeholders and the citizens to submit their complaints to the government.
