The Primate, President of 3rd Biennial Conference of the African Church, His Eminence Julius Olayinka Osayande Abbe, has appealed to Nigerians to join religious leaders to continuously praying fervently to ensure the country does not crash but remain in one nation.
According to Primate Abbe, the country can only survive through God’s intervention, adding that it seems nothing whatsoever is working efficiently.
The Clergyman spoke at the commencement of 3rd Biennial Conference of the Fricsn Church hosted by Anago Diocese between 19th and 22nd November, 2020.
He said: “Our country is experiencing most difficult time, almost on the edge of a precipice. As a Church, let us continue to pray fervently so as to ensure that the country does not crash. To be candid, nothing seems to be working in the country. Imagine a man at 60 years still crawling. Nigeria is indeed a paradox. It is a country of five talents that is being governed by ‘one talent’ leaders. It is time for us to go back to the drawing board and amend our ways to address the followings before things get out of hand.

Awake from your slumber and embark on your daily chores. This is the summary of the action by our youth. These youths deserve our appreciation for serving as a catalyst to good governance.
It is unfortunate that the ugly incident that was recorded at Lekki Toll Plaza took place. We commiserate with everyone who lost their loved ones and belongings in the course of the protest. We condemn in strong terms, the reprisal attack, which led to the destruction of our common heritage and innocent lives.
The words of the Bible remain constant that “when the offenders are punished, the just also feel its effect”. The import of the whole issue is that all those in position of governance should realise that people are watching them. Life of affluence is not the preserve of just a few. Let the dividends of governance spread across to the people. They have eyes to see. Know that it is a deceit for anyone to try to hide behind a finger. The Ostrich that hides its head must know that all other parts of the body are in the open. The people are watching. Let us reason together. Let us cherish and love one another”, he added.
Julius Olayinka Osayande Abbe was born to the family of Pa Samuel Abbe and Mrs. Sabainah Abbe both of blessed memory over five decades ago. His father was one of the founders of The African Church, Emmanuel Parish, Itire and the first President of The African Church Youth Organization, which later metamorphosed into African Church Youth Association, (ACYA).
The young Julius Abbe had his Primary School education at Ansaru-deen Primary School, Itire, Lagos. He attended Government College, Ikorodu, Lagos and Eko Boys High School, Mushin, Lagos for his Secondary School education. The indication that was he was going to serve in God’s Vineyard came to the fore while in secondary school when he was appointed the prayer leader to lead his school assembly in Bible Reading and Prayer Session. By virtue of his strong conviction to do God’s work, he enrolled at The African Church College of Theology, Ifako, Lagos to be trained as a minister in 1985. He was ordained into The African Church’s ministry on August 25 1985. He was priested on and posted to the African Salem Church, Ebute-Metta, Lagos.
Julius Abbe recorded many firsts in The African Church. After his elevation in 1992 he became the first Chaplain of Adeniyi Coker Memorial Chapel, at The African Church College of Theology, Karaole Estate, Ifako-Agege, Lagos.
On September 8, 1996 he became the youngest Bishop ever to be consecrated by The African Church at the age of 31, a feat that has not been surpassed to date. On the 23rd of August 2015, he broke another record as the first Bishop to be invested as an Archbishop of The African Church. And by divine permission he was elected on 1st May 2019 as The Primate and subsequently installed and enthroned as the 12th Primate of The African Church on March 22nd, 2020 in a very colourful service at The African Church Arch Cathedral Bethel, 59 Broad Street, Lagos, the National Headquarters of The Church by the highly revered Patriarch of The Church, His Eminence, Abraham Onadotun Onanuga, the former Primate of The Church.
Julius Abbe holds a Bachelor’s and Masters Degrees in Christian Religious Studies from Lagos State University in 1991 and 2001. He is presently pursuing his doctoral degree at the University of Ibadan. He is happily married to Mrs. Dorcas Olufunmilayo Abbe and the union is blessed with wonderful children.
The soft spoken, erudite, versatile man of God is indeed a blessing to The African Church. Without mincing words, The African Church, a mustard seed that was planted 119 years ago and which has become a gigantic tree is in for the best experience ever for the blessings of humanity and to the glory of God.
