•Says Ondo State People Not Violent
Ondo State Governor, Arakunrin Rotimi Akeredolu Aketi SAN, who is the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and other candidates of other political parties have signed a peace accord for the October 10, 2020 governorship election
Governor Akeredolu reiterated his commitment to free, fair and peaceful election while pledging to abide by the content of the peace accord.
The Abdulsalami Abubakar National Peace Committee which has been in existence since 2014, had contributed immensely to the successful conduct of elections in the country.
At the event held at the International Culture and Event Center (DOME), Governor Akeredolu described the people of the state as peace-loving.
Governor Akeredolu said:”This won’t be my first election. It is the third and the last one that I will contest as a Governor. We went through election on two occasions and I don’t recollect any violence on those two occasions.
“If we have one or two events of violence, it doesn’t mean that Ondo state people are violent. Maybe from the experience of our people, they have refused to be violent. I want to assure you, this Saturday’s election will be peaceful.
“Ondo state people are peace loving people. For me as a Governor of this state, I will still address our people on the need to do away with violence. The crop and caliber of people that contested the last election is not something that can be found anywhere in Nigeria.
“Eyitayo Jegede and I, we talk on phone. I know he can’t supervise any violence. These things are done behind us without our knowledge and we are reining in our supporters. We have made a pledge and we will continue to talk to our people.”
